I have always had a thing for wood ...!
When I decided to get serious, I started with some basic hand tools. The good old common hand saw, a basic set of chisels, a hammer, a bunch of screw drivers, a jack plane, a basic low end sander and jig saw.
My first major project for my home was a dining table for my son and I. With the help from my dad, we managed to make it with the tools owned at the time. A router was borrowed from a friend to put a nice edge on the table top, but that was it !!
Now, there is a dedicated workshop full of all sorts of tools and establishing my own business in furniture repairs and restoration as well as creating unique gifts for people.
The workshop has a good combination of hand and power tools that have built up over time and I just love working in my space each day.
Love working with wood, whether it be bringing an old piece of furniture back to life or creating something new from a piece of wood that others would suggest it lives in the firewood pile.
Preference is to work with you, the clients and customers to achieve your goals with respect to either bring a special piece back to life, that may well be a family heirloom or creating a unique gift for a special occasion or that someone special in your life. Working together is far more enjoyable, achieving an outcome considering your timeframe, budget, timber selection, type of finish, functionality of the piece, and anything else that will assist you.
Hopefully, you get to read some or all of my posts and that you will find them useful.
It is hoped to share with you an idea of tools to start out with and progressing onto other more specialised tools as well some of the techniques used in the repairs and restoration of furniture. Also include will be articles about how you can do some work yourself or maybe you need a little assistance from me to complete your task.
The aim is to grow this blog over time, into a place were one can get good easy and simple ideas, tips and tricks for some DIY work as well as general knowledge about wood, industry updates and advancements as well. There will be links to videos, books, articles, websites and master crafts people in their field that have been utilised in my own learning experience, increasing my skills and knowledge.
You can never stop learning and there are new tools and techniques being tried all the time as well as bringing back a lot of the older ones as they were good back then and still are now !

Please, don't hesitate to contact me via either phone, email or through Facebook. We can chat on the phone or sit down over a coffee and talk about what your looking for and together we will achieve your goal.
A detailed quote will be supplied after our initial chat so you know what is going to be happening as well as the associated costs and working within your budget.
The creative work can be a little tricky to quote on sometimes but I can give you an idea and through our conversation establish your budget and work with that.
Concerning the furniture restoration and repairs I will not cut corners nor degrade your piece in anyway unless you direct me to. It will be treated as if it were my own.
As an example - if there was a loose joint in your piece, for what ever reason, a dirty great big screw would not be driven through the joint. Instead it would investigated as to why it is loose and carefully take the joint apart , fix the issue then glue and clamp it back together. This would be followed with the piece having a good clean and a gentle buff with some wax polish to bring back its warm lustre, you wouldn't know there was a repair done!
